Teaching Media Fluency

In today’s educational classrooms teaching with Digital fluency is paramount to maximize student outcomes. Digital fluency is higher-order thinking that is critical for all students so that they can construct their own ideas in creative ways (Fulgence, n.d.). By teaching in this way, teachers will understand how to use technology to construct their ideas as well as use technology in such a way that to meet their teaching and learning objectives; however, there is a problem. Most teachers have not been trained well enough to implement technology into the classroom or their ideas are very limited. Teacher preparation programs must incorporate digital fluency training into their degree programs so that new teachers know how to use technology effectively. As for the teachers who have already finished their preparatory programs, the schools must be proactive in providing training and leadership to show them how to use technology tools to meet the digital fluency needs of this day. If we do this, students will learn how to access information in new and creative ways and will know how share their ideas by collaborating with others through technology which will help them understand how they can have connections on a global level (Daughtery, 2022).
